Panic at the Paramount Merch

For the fourth annual horror film series Panic at the Paramount, I illustrated the historic Paramount Theatre as a haunted house in silhouette.

Process Work

The concept was inspired by the papercuts in Lotte Reineger's The Adventures of Prince Achmed. The film was released in 1926, when the Paramount was 10 years old.

To get an understanding of how to build the piece, I began by creating a rough silhouette cutout of the front of the theatre.

The remainder of the piece was drawn in Procreate and then vectorized in Illustrator. Initial frame options were inspired by stage lights, memento mori rings, and details in the theatre.

The final frame is based on molding around the stage inside the theatre. Details like Frankenstein's monster and Bride of Frankenstein, a cat, and a ghost add to the spooky theme.
