Omaha Travel Brochure

Spring 2024
Travel Brochure

I grew up near Omaha, Nebraska, and go back to visit often. The aim of this tourism brochure is to highlight its main attractions and portray it as a vibrant city with a rich history. The branding is young and dynamic with a vintage touch, just like the city itself.

Discovery

Inspiration

I drew inspiration from Omaha's many historical neighborhoods with their cobblestone streets, old brick buildings, and ghost signs. The city also has deep roots in meat production, and from 1883 to 1999 the Union Stockyards were one of the largest livestock markets in the nation. My grandfather farmed cattle and would frequently take us to Johnny's Cafe, a steakhouse that has been run by a single owner for over 100 years. I wanted to bring some of that history into the design as well.

Sketches

In my sketches, I explored a wide variety of logotypes inspired by Omaha's architecture and history as the steak capitol of the world. The tall building sketch is inspired by the Woodmen Building, which when I was growing up was Omaha's most well known building and the tallest building in town. With its stripe motif, the logo I ended up going with draws inspiration from this building in a more subtle way.

First Draft

Final Spreads

The final design was updated to create a more dynamic display of the most important Omaha attractions, the biggest being the Henry Doorly Zoo, which got its own spread. Steakhouses and restaurants feature prominently, as does the city's newly completed RiverFront project with new museums, parks, and outdoor recreation opportunities. The photography juxtaposes old and new, imbuing the design with a sense of history while highlighting new and exciting attractions for visitors to experience.

Color Palette

The color palette features Omaha Orange, a vibrant yet classic automotive paint color, a deep green that brings to mind the verdant fields around the city, and a tan color to round out the vintage-inspired color palette and balance out the bright orange. It is earthy yet vibrant, just like Omaha.

Reflection

This brochure is the first piece of a regional multichannel tourism campaign that will feature a website and ads. The city has grown a lot recently, and I loved researching and showcasing these attractions to show others what makes Omaha special and to entice them to visit this young and dynamic city.
